I think with the slight fretting about the expectation that we'll be relying on Ty Chandler to be our number 2 tailback and he isn't even on campus yet, combined with the recognition of just how talented Alvin Kamara was, has caused us to forget just how talented John Kelly is as a running back.
Seeing him get the award for offensive MVP at the spring game caused me to think "oh yeah, that dude is a really good RB". As far as I know, he isn't quite in Kamara's or McCaffrey's stratosphere as a pass catcher, but I feel like his balance is on par with Kamara, and his top end speed is actually better than Kamara's (as proven by the GPS tracker clocking him).
I'm not going to guarantee that Kelly will be one of the top-4 running backs in the SEC for 2017 or anything (considering Guice, Chubb, and the guys at Alabama), but if he stays healthy, he could definitely go for 1,300+ yards. And even if QD is our QB and doesn't present much of a running threat, Kelly plus a lot of accurate, timely throws, with what should definitely be a top-4 SEC OL, should make for a pretty good offense.
Just fix the defense, Butch and Shoop
