We needed to social distance and minimize the virus. I don’t think any rational person can argue against that BUT. I can’t help but think the pressure of being sensitive ie politically correct, the nations growing risk taking adverseness, and the chickification or snowflaking of America may have caused some unnecessary overreaction. Absolutely it would have be irresponsible, rash, and dangerous to continue live attendance to sporting events. But the players, and even the refs are extremely low risk for serious consequences from the virus. There is No compelling reason the NCAA or the NBA couldn’t have gone forward in empty arenas. This would have generated hundreds of millions of dollars in revenues that has just evaporated. I am sure there are other prime examples to. I hate Monday morning QBs and I don’t believe I am being. There were so many unknowns and we did the best we could. We had to err on the side of safety. But I don’t think you have to look back with 20 20 hindsight to see that it was a rash knee jerk decision to end the NCAA and NBA season. Nothing but big time losers here and virtually no risk avoidance.

Holding colleges spring FB practice and even allowing recruit visitation would have been extremely low risk. The probability of contracting the virus would have been relatively low and the probability of an extremely fit young person developing any serious reaction even if they got the virus would be off the charts low.

I don’t know what decision I would have made because external pressures. But I am pretty sure if you could plug the pros and cons into a computer the answer would have been to continue the basketball events with no spectators in the arenas. And I am even pretty sure the odds for holding spring practice and even allowing some recruiting visits would have overwhelmed those saying not.
