This is the only hype that I'm going to buy into this season and that is being hyped about the character of Team 121's players. Based on the few interviews he's done and his comments in them, I really like Marquez Callaway's mentality and mindset toward this upcoming season and his potential to be a leader for the Vols in the years to come.
We know this young group of receivers wants to break out and make a name for themselves, but what I'm very interested in seeing his leaders emerge in the Sophomore class. One such leader, I believe, will be Marquez Callaway. Between all the talking points that they seem to be given in their interviews, I feel like Callaway's personality has shown through and I like it. The kid is very grounded. His answer re: what it felt like to come in as a freshman and have to sit was especially telling. It may be just me, but I read into his answer that he got here, realized he needed to improve mentally, physically and conditioning wise, and embraced his year behind Malone, Jennings and Smith.
We need a leader in WR room other than Alpha Dog Jauan who will embrace doing all the small things in every facet of the game. Not saying Jauan can't be that guy for us, but he is a junior and you want leadership at every level in case players leave for the league.
My pick for future leader of the WR room is Callaway. I think he's got a great head on his shoulders, carries himself well, and if he can take charge, produce and lead this WR group, we can re-foster the WRU culture with the right players at the right time.
I'm interested to hear from people who have personally interacted with him and whether they see this same potential. @Rob Lewis; @Austin_Price
