My take on that issue is there are multiple reasons: many kids and their parents have the attitude " where is the best place for me" and feel no allegiance to the state university and the new NIL rules compounds that attitude; many want to go to a team that has been highly ranked the last few years with a good chance to go to the national championship series; cheating in recruiting is probably worse in the SEC than wver: the athletic dept. has been a cluster for a number of years with to much meddling by donors; we have made multiple bad hires in the administration and coaches; and currrently, none of our football coaches had any recruiting ties to this state when hired, including the HC; the Nashville Tennessean newspapers coverage of UT football has been pretty much nonexistent or negative.
