This guys seemed to be someone who refused to adapt his system to his talent the entire time he was at UT. It seemed to me(the casual observer) to be very stubborn and arrogant. In my opinion he cost Ut and Butch Jones 3 wins in 2 years. I do think he won the USC game this year.
My guess is, his buddy Lovie offered home 100-200k bump to be Qb coach at Tampa bay, everyone who has a brain know that staff has 2 years at best. Mike goes to butch and hart and asks them to match, they subsequently say sorry, but good luck in Tampa.
