Surprised this topic has not been broached yet but was a bit shocked to see Northwestern go down to Western Michigan in their opener. In case we could use another reason for tempering expectations in the wake of our recent close call with disaster, this may very well be another good reason to bring us back to reality. A core reason for my confidence going into the year was the way we closed out the season last year.
I repeatedly dismissed the detractors that sited the quality of our opponents to end the year based on the thinking that Northwestern was a legitimate opponent and a quality win.
With them pathetically losing to Western Michigan in their opener, I can't help but think there might have been some substance to what our detractors were saying about our wins to end the season and how they don't carry much weight.
Hope this is not the case but I thought it was an interesting observation.
