Hello, all.
Today's pick is a semi nostalgic one for me, but it's one that features one of the top five comedic actors ever [in my opinion, natch], Peter Sellers. On the very first day of this little "series," @VirginiaBeachVol suggested the film MURDER BY DEATH... and, that's not today's suggestion [apologies, VBV]. Nope, today's recommendation comes from the PINK PANTHER series... more specifically, it's...
THE PINK PANTHER STRIKES AGAIN
From IMDb, the plot is as follows: "Charles Dreyfus (Herbert Lom), who has finally cracked over Inspector Jacques Clouseau's (Peter Sellers') antics, escapes from a mental institution and launches an elaborate plan to get rid of Clouseau once and for all."
There's an unfortunate paucity of *.gifs for this flick, and I guess that's not especially surprising since it was released in the year of our nation's bicentennial, so it seems I'll just have to stick with a couple of YouTube clips... starting with the trailer for the film, of course.
This one might not have the overall best gags in the series [the "Special Delivery; it's a bomb" one from REVENGE OF THE PINK PANTHER sticks out for being particularly ludicrous], but it's got the most consistently funny ones. If you're familiar with the series - or even if you're just familiar with the plot summary I included above - there's a really funny slapstick scene that's worth embedding. Just watch below:
I don't know why, but the use of slow-motion [particularly the bit where Clouseau whacks Cato with the nunchaku] never fails to crack me up. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but this entire film is just vintage Peter Sellers. If you give it a shot, I'm guessing you'll want to watch the rest of the PINK PANTHER films. Wakan... I mean, Clouseau Forever!
Enjoy!
