About a month and a half ago I got a call from an area wal mart saying they had a customer returning a printer. When the store opened the printer, there were 3 checks from my business inside. The person returning the printer left and took the checks with them. I went to the store, and had the police meet me there to fill out a police report. Since no crime was committed, they could do nothing.
Fast forward to today. Multiple calls to confirm checks were legit. I informed the banks and third party cashing facilities that the checks were stolen and forged, but that didn’t stop 6 people from getting them cashed....totaling 3900.00.
I know almost 100% it was from my old bookkeeper, however the checks were from multiple names so I’m not sure how to connect to her.
Good news is, my fraud protection paid me back for 4 checks. Hope the other 2 can be returned too.
