He's on the scout team because after the season he's gone. It's been leaked plenty that he wanted to enter the transfer portal and he's posted "I'm not quitting on my team mid season." That's not the same as "I'm not going anywere. I'm not transfering." IMO the staff has convinced him to stick out the season in case they absolutely needed him. They, as well as the VQ crew, are trying to give what info they can about him so as not to make Maurer look bad, considering the mental issues that Maurer, himself, has put out there earlier this year.
