This season is gonna be tough for the Vols. In fact, we are about to run right into the teeth...

On a lighter note, worth sharing: My son just started 4th-5th grade tackle football (after a year of debate/arguing/pitching a fit with my wife). The town we live in is really big on their program, so they arranged for the first game to be under the lights at the High School, right before the varsity high school game.

The entire town showed up; music, tailgating, they gave us stuff with our kids number on it, to show off that we were parents of a player. Man, there were probably several hundred people who showed up early to be at this PeeWee game. Cheers, songs, chants, lots of cheering.

Going even further, they had the Jr High, JV and Varsity squads all suited up and on the sidelines for the game. They had the entire high school cheerleading squad there on the sidelines as well.

Here is the kicker...swear to goodness,....there was a fly over by a State Air National Guard Chopper Squadron right at kickoff.

The other towns parents...you could tell they showed up and were like “wtf is this!”

Just unreal. For you that have sat in the stands and watched your kid in those games, you know how funny they can be. Hell, their helmets are bigger than they are, and just about every play is a scrum. My son was wound up before the game, and I’ve gotta admit...I was fired up too. I haven’t been that amped since playing sports myself.

I gotta say, I love TN/Neyland, and them running thru the T. There’s nothing like that....but hell, that was one of the most awesome experiences that I’ve had as an adult, and certainly as a parent.

I gotta be honest...that game and his season, ...its been my saving grace. It’s a game, and it’s supposed to be fun, enjoyed. Yeah, I know it’s tough to take pride in something and watch it take a licking.

The good news....

Final score:

Our team: 18
(Still stunned) Rival town: 0.... -17 yards rushing...I know we’re not supposed to focus on winning at this age (that’s what they keep saying to us)...but we flat out trucked that team.

*** A friend of mine who is a priest put it best: “God favored his own people and had them wandering in the desert for forty years! ...and you think ten years in the dumps is a curse?!! Trust me, we will have that turning moment soon.”

I had to laugh!
Go
