Web all know our problems and recent trends and now with Bowden out again, it is hard to see us getting road victory. As a young team we have been up and down all year, but while SC is going into the toilet too it is a different picture.
Just like last year the Cocks started out like a house of fire only to fade miserably as the season progressed. Fast forward to this year and it is repeat. I have watched Frank Martin try every movitational trick in the book but he may not have any more rabbits in his hat. None have worked as of late.
There is consensus among the fans, and I think they are on to something, that Martin works them so hard, even on game day that they are just flat out tired. I think the fans know something. They are losing games down the stretch by missing easy, open shots--especially 3 pointers- and not hustling after loose balls and look sluggish. Their last game against UF they played pretty well and were down only 1 at half but got beat by 15.
The man, and man is the right word, carrying this team is Sindarius Thornwell who is having an All-SEC senior year. He can hit the 3 but at 6'5" can go inside, penetrates well, and often gets fouled. He is good free throw shooter. He is the one keeping them in the games. Part of that may be that he was suspended for 3 games and has fresher legs than the others. He is absolutely the key to SC success.
Martin is reluctant to go to a bench which is thin and he has no faith in. In the long overtime loss at home to Bama he stayed with the starters.
I think another thing where Martin has not handled it well is the "tired factor." That has been the big talk for weeks and he has even addressed it publicly. It seems to me that they are now thinking about being tired, so they are. Remember how Pat handled being tired? Martin needs to take a page page from her book.
If they keep missing shots at the end, we stay out of foul trouble and play half decent and keep it close, then we have a shot. But if that begins to happen we cannot let Sindarius take over the game.
Going to be a tough outing, maybe for both teams.
