Both the Men and Women's team have talent and good wins. Both share the same problem with their guard play. For the teams to be at their best the guards need to limit their turnovers, shoot effectively, and play defense. They lapse and are inconsistent in all three areas. The Lady Vol guards can be turnover machines. In the second half last night they had TEN straight possessions without a shot on goal with only two points scored on free throws. They frequently pass up an open shot and turn the ball over trying to make a GREAT PASS for the play. Both teams have problems when the other team's offense moves their post players up in the lane and runs their guards past them or moves a perimeter player behind and below the high post. Lots of layups and close shots by unguarded players under the basket. Those options frequently put the other team on the free throw line as well. The losses have all occurred when two or all three of these problems were the rule for the Tennessee guards.
