According to someone I trust in "the know," and as many on here have alluded to, injuries played a part in the parting-of-ways. Here's what he told me...
- Apparently, others around the SEC have questioned our S&C program since Butch arrived and have viewed it as a weakness (this surprised me).
- Lawson's weight lifting philosophy is very rigid/blue collar in a sense that the exercises tend to center around brute power/muscle mass, rather than freedom of movement exercises that help with explosion and (in this case) better physical health and being a better football player.
- This individual went on to tell me that CBJ, as well as many of our important players/leaders love what they have in Szerzen...that he has a focus on those explosive, freedom-of-movement exercises (such as power cleans/jerks). He's very charismatic, and the players have responded very well to the change.
- Then added that Lawson was well-liked as a person (no Sal Sunseri antics or anything like that), but that it wasn't a good fit and the program needed some fresh blood/ideas.
Take it as you will.
