Updated, 2/11/21, below in thread:
Since it's slow around here and possibly against my better judgment, I thought I'd open this thread from the other side of the recruiting process. Thought that might be of interest to some and I know that some of you will have advice and information along the way.
My son is a 2022 kid, thinks he can be a college TE. Now, I'm pretty sure he can be at some level, and the key is to find the right level and make the right choices. But my son's situation isn't normal.
He's a late bloomer and has played only one season of football - never been though a spring practice even. He started games on both sides of the ball at FCHS (not every game), and while he developed and learned a lot, we are behind in the recruiting process. Plays DE/OLB on defense, TE and WR on offense. FC had a very limited ability to pass the ball, though, and he only had one catch on one target for 17 yds this year. We are hopeful that the new OC will change that for 2021 - we'll see.
McKeon is 6'3 1/4", 205 lbs and is very much still growing. He's grown 3/4" since August and the orthopedic Dr estimates that he could grow another 1.5 to 3 inches. He's not quite 16 1/2 yet and isn't shaving - has a lot of maturing to do. Plays baseball as well and did play HS basketball for a minute. I have no doubt that the weight will come on fairly quickly as he matures, since he's working with a nutritionist and is lifting very hard to put on mass. With that said, he doesn't have a build where he is likely to grow into an OT, regardless of his eventual height.
Here's a route on air from last Sunday (red shorts). You CPA guys might enjoy knowing that QB Cade Law threw the nice ball here.
We're way behind in development and recruiting and know it. We've put together a simple twitter page and through that, he was lucky enough to get invited to NPA/Buck's 7v7 tryouts - we are now involved with his program. Very happy to have that opportunity to develop and to hopefully eventually be seen. Going to attend the NCEC event in Nashville and may do the one in Atlanta as well (both in January). Will have some real measurables at that point.
Grades are good and won't be a concern. We have registered with the NCAA Clearinghouse, but need to upgrade and send in ACT scores and transcripts soon.
The FCHS HS coaches would be happy to help for something very specific, but almost all of the 'marketing' is on us, at this point. I'll update this along the way if/as there is any interest here and as there are developments. Given his growth situation and lack of experience, etc., the cone of uncertainty is very, very large here. Will be fun to see where it goes. Our current school of most interest is Mercer University in Macon, Ga. But, haha, they barely know it at this point.
Any helpful thoughts and guidance are appreciated - I'm sure many on here have been in a boat somewhat like this one.
