I want to see if UGA can run the ball on Alabama. And I want to see if Bama can run the ball on UGA.
The rushing stats yesterday don't look so hot for us, yet on 22 carries, White ("Zeus") only gained 50 yards. It seemed like we had trouble on some plays with missed tackles, but when UGA tried to run White between the tackles, we stuffed them. He averaged more than double the ypc against Auburn and Arkansas.
Also, Ole Miss' two top TBs each rushed for over 120 yards against Bama yesterday.
After watching A&M/FL and Auburn/Arkansas, I am wondering if UGA's DL is an outlier in the SEC, way above everyone else, while FL, Bama and Auburn (certainly LSU) are well below their recent standards (and perhaps even our front 7) when it comes to stopping the run. A&M just dominated Florida running the football in the second half. A&M only ran the ball for 115 against Bama, but that was still more rushing yards than Bama had and A&M passed for 335 yards.
If Bama cannot run on Georgia, I will feel a lot better. If Georgia can smash Bama between the tackles, I will feel even better still. I still don't think Bennett can win it all for UGA, but outside of the QB spot, UGA may be the best team in the SEC overall. That doesn't mean they win this Saturday, but I cannot wait to see the matchups.
Considering that our D played an entire extra quarter over UGA's D yesterday because of our inept offensive performance, I'm wondering if we don't have the makings of the 2nd or 3rd best D in the SEC. But it is all about match-ups. I fear Bama will throw the ball all over us because we have a pedestrian pass rush from our front 4.
