I don't think you are an idiot but I said it for emph-ass-is. PS it's long and I don't DGAF if you read it or not.
1. Butch is not dead yet. But he is on life support. Minus Alabama, everyone on the schedule is beatable. If he only loses to Alabama the rest of the year, he will be back. He might be back if he loses 2 games. Buying the staff out is a real financial concern.
2. Not everything that happens is Butch's fault. It's overly simplistic to say every execution error or player that doesn't pan out is Butch's fault. Now might he lose his job because ultimately the top man has to be held accountable? Absolutely. But if you blame every little thing on the coaches, you are dumb. I've seen some people try to blame injuries on Butch.
3. QD is a real problem but if you believe or are peddling a conspiracy theory that the coaches haven't played JG because they don't like being "wrong," you are dumb. Coaches like to keep their job. If they so far hadn't thought QD gave them the best chance to win, they wouldn't have played him. Cleary there has been a deficit in QD and JG's play in camp / practice that has them, as horrified as they must be at QD's play, feeling like JG would make things worse.
4. Spending other people's money isn't as simple as people like to pretend is. I notice, especially among non-alum sidewalk fans, that they think donors are lining up at the door to risk millions on a coaching crap shoot. There is no sure fire bet in coaching outside of Nick Saban and, to a lesser degree, Urban Meyer. Why else do you see conference blue bloods with the likes of Ed Orgeron, Jim McElwain, and as well as he is doing so far this year, Kirby Smart. Mid Major / Assistant coaches are the most common route for even top programs and I am not sure why people don't get it. PS Nobody is going to risk million dollars on a coach with no local connections that is coming off a show cause and crashed and burned in the NFL. Crashed and burned in SPECTACULAR fashion. Imagine 3 years from now when he crashes and burns how hard it will be to buy him out with the contract he'll command. Also, the NFL route is not a proven source of elite college coaches. Callahan sucked. Harbaugh was hired for what he did at Stanford, not what he did in San Fransisco.
5. Lastly, people need to quit making coaching recommendations off the game they watched last night. Mike Leach because he beat USC? Lo how Dan Mullen's stock has fallen.
Long and short, there's a process that will play out and it won't be done asa tempertantrum like one might find from some keyboard tough guy on a message board. The best thing for UT - Butch turns the season around and keeps his job.
