W6: A&M Cover (W)

Another fun game to watch the vols. They have definitely delivered as far as television ratings are concerned and they are one of three very good games that will be played on Saturday. First let’s briefly talk about last week. Across college football, this was probably one of the most physical weeks of football, and Tennessee was involved in probably the most physical game of them all. The hitting was intense. This probably has Tennessee beat up a little bit. Alabama looked fresh against Arkansas and their defense is really the shining star of that team. Those guys are scoring and helping the offense with field position battles. Games are not played on paper, but Alabama holds serious advantages in almost every statistical category. With that being said, this sharp said there is just a different feeling about this game. This Tennessee team has a different feel to it. Tennessee has gotten closer each year Butch Jones has been the head coach, and Josh Dobbs could be the one that finally gets to Alabama. Tennessee has a four very good rushing options between Dobbs and the running backs, and the offensive line keeps getting better each week. Last week was an improvement from the week before and they played a nasty front seven. The question is can the skill players hold on to the ball and can Dobbs go back to Dobbs of last year and protect the football in the air. Tennessee will need 35-40 points to win this game. Hurts is a very good quarterback right now, and although Alabama’s rushing attack is not what it has been in recent years, they can still grind out a win. This sharp thinks this game is a perfect storm and the Vols win 41-39. Tennessee to Cover.

Sharp B (2-3-1)
W1: Over (L)
W2: Vols Cover (W)
W3: Vols Cover (L)
W4: Fla win (L)
W5: Over (W)
W6: Vols cover (P)

This sharp says you can say whatever you want about this game but what it really comes down to is who can stop the rush and who can put pressure on the quarterbacks. Alabama’s top two running backs average more than 8 yards a carry, while Tennessee’s are around 4 for Hurd and 5 for Kamara. Dobbs has been pretty good throwing under pressure while Hurts is surgical with no pressure and not very good when someone is coming at him. This is the key right here. Force Hurts to make bad decisions, keep the crowd in the game. The Tennessee coaches got a little creative last week, and this week they need to pull all of the stops out. This game is their national championship and SEC championship. Hopefully all players that have been injured for both teams that are capable of playing do play in this game. The biggest addition will no doubt be the Tennessee linebacker (Kirkland). That kid is a stud and even more of a stud playing against a team who likes to run downhill like Alabama. Can Tennessee block Tim Williams? That guy is an absolute missile coming off the edge of the line. This sharp believes Tennessee has the players, the strategy, and most importantly the timing to beat Alabama, but that will not happen because they will lose the turnover battle. Alabama makes teams who take care of the ball turn it over 4 times, what will they do against a team that is willing to put the ball on the ground 5 times a game and turn it over in the air at least once a game? Alabama covers and wins because of a Defensive touchdown. 38-25.

Sharp C (0-3-0)
W1: Over (L)
W2: Pass
W3: Over (L)
W4: Under (L)
W5: Pass
W6: No Play

I walked into Westgate sportsbook and this sharp yelled ‘Kamara’ from the other end of room. He is absolutely thrilled that he got a chance to shine and that he did not disappoint aside from the fumbles. He wanted to talk about Alabama first, because they do deserve it regardless of what people have to say. There is really only one game that needs to be looked at in comparison and that is the Ole Miss game. Ole Miss opened the blueprint up in how to beat Alabama, and it is the same blue print that Tennessee should use. With that being said, they ran for over 300 yards on Ole Miss and Threw for 158. Alabama won the turnover battle and the time of possession battle. Ole Miss had one sack and four quarterback hurries. Here is the interesting note. Alabama scored three non-offensive touchdowns. A punt return and two defensive touchdowns is the reason this team won. Ole Miss’ defense, even in giving up 300 yards, did their jobs in respects to the offense. Alabama’s quarterback has some wheels on him and with time he will pick you apart. Tennessee must apply pressure early and often. The corners definitely need to be comfortable on an island and you cannot forget about Alabama’s tight end. On offense the playbook needs to be wide open and they need to attack the secondary. Alabama’s front seven is like a boa constrictor and once they get their hands wrapped around you, the more you try the worse it gets. Air the ball out. Get those skill players in space. Tyler Byrd did some great things, get him some more reps. Most importantly, let Dobbs be Dobbs. Tennessee needs to pick up the pace a little bit, wear Alabama’s defense out. The defense made Texas A&M punt 10 times. That should be a win. Pruitt gets creative but Tennessee has a history of putting up numbers against his defenses. This sharp looks for the same but in the end thinks Alabama just has a little too much. Alabama wins Tennessee Covers. 38-30.

Sharp D (1-2-0)
W1: Tennessee Cover (L)
W2: Pass
W3: Pass
W4: Fla Cover (L)
W5: Pass
W6: A&M Cover (W)

This sharp is passing on the game because there are too many factors that are playing into the game that could change the outcome. He said Tennessee’s offensive playcalling and offense in general is really starting to hit its stride. If you take away the turnovers and drops, this time might have scored 50-60 more points in the past three games combined. They are returning a two stars to the lineup in Kirkland and Hurd, and the offensive line is really starting to bully people. With that being said, no one has really bullied Alabama’s front seven. This is a home game in which the rowdiest crowd Alabama has seen will be there. Can the freshman quarterback perform in this environment? It just feels like this is Tennessee’s time, if they avoid injuries and turnovers, they are undefeated now? This is the 5th game Tennessee has played against teams who have been ranked in the top 25 at any point in time in the season. He passes because of too many conflicts. He would guess Alabama wins 35-25.
