Regarding this comment in the War Room about staying under the 85 limit:
Remember to have room for all the mid-term guys you have to stay under your scholarship limit of 85 (or less depending on what Tennessee is self-imposing) and that’s in part why you wonder if some guys aren’t coming back.
Mid-term enrollees immediately go on scholarship for Spring semester. All returning players remain on scholarship as long as they are in school at UT, whether they are participating with the football program or not. They could be in the portal, looking at other schools and still be in class at UT for Spring semester.
As I understand it, the only ways they come off of scholarship is if they leave school at UT altogether (transfer and go on scholarship elsewhere, leave for the NFL or simply drop out) or get moved to a medical hardship.
Since the athletic scholarships are a full-year commitment by the school, how does a player simply entering the transfer portal help with staying under the 85 number during the Spring semester?
Why wouldn’t there be an overlap during Spring semester that would result in them total be over 85?
