Depth is becoming a major concern.
I would imagine the following position groups look something like this.
Mike: Jumper, Bates, Bituli, Bryant
Will: JRM**, McDowell, El. Berry
Sam: Bynum, Blakely?
CB: Martin, Moseley, Buchanan, Foreman
At linebacker, we are insanely thin. Of those listed above, I would think Bates or Bituli would be closest to helping. Really need some guys in the position group to step up. Best case scenario, JRM can still go... That would obviously make a world of difference.
At CB, we know what we have with Martin and Moseley. Not great players, but not a nightmare scenario either. I actually think Martin could elevate his play, the physical tools are there. Buchanan looked solid, but it was Ohio. Excited to see him vs SEC competition. Need to rep Foreman at CB some going forward to build some depth.
On Florida...
They are going to run a lot of 2 TE sets. I'll be very interested to see if we defend them with a 4-3 or a 4-2-5. We will likely run both, but the thought of Bynum in a play action rollout situation is unnerving. I do like Bynum's ability as a run defender when he's on the LOS though.
With the injuries, I don't think we can get the reps this would need, but a 4-3 with Jumper, JRM, and McDowell at Sam would be nice.
Florida wants to formation people to death so getting lined up with be a big deal this week. They will also test our CBs on the deep ball. I hope our safeties can play with good eyes and be involved on some deep balls.
I haven't been shy about my giant man crush on Florida's defense. They are the best unit on the field. Our defense has to step up and keep an average Florida offense off the score board for us to have a chance. Our DL needs to dominate, because theirs almost certainly will.
