I wish I had more understanding on how 5 star players are ranked or selected and subsequently developed. Also, why do these same players do so well at places like Alabama with the continual coaching changes almost every year? I know Saban can't coach every one of them.
Is it a mindset in addition to physical talent that coaches like Saban look for? I look at Butch Jones 2nd class which was full of highly rated players. Really only Barnett and Malone have lived up to their rating. It is puzzling that others have been complete busts and not even impacting on a part time basis. For instance, Bates and Mackenzie, were they recruited bt Bama? If they were, and would have signed with Bama, would things turned out differently? I know Mac is going pro, but his production vs his rating is not comparable.
I know Kongbo was recruited by most top programs, what happened? If he goes to Bama or Ohio St, does he become a different player?
I really believed before spring practice that we had enough highly rated players to field a first team with a few adequate subs. Not Bama or Ohio St type depth mind you, but at least competitive to win at least 6-7 games next year with good coaching, now not so sure after the spring game and CP's comments.
Are we really that far down as a program? if so. can it ever be competitive to win 10 plus games a year? I know Butch won 9 two times, but as a program, is an occasional 9 win season the high end now?
It used to be that we had the fan and donor support to out spend most every other conference team including Bama, now every SEC team has been given a pot of gold from TV revenue from SEC network, is this advantage we once had now evened out with every other SEC team including Vandy?
