Just got word that my wife's grandfather--Opa--is seeing his last few days with us. He's been battling Alzheimer's for a couple of years now and today they found a bad infection and a bleeding ulcer. My wife's family have made the painful decision to let him slip away. Opa was a very good man. Army officer in Korea, then at various points a farmer, miner, and cattle rancher. A very strong and tough-looking man, but one of the kindest I've ever met. I was scared to death of him when I met him for the first time shortly before asking my wife to marry me, but he could not have been more kind or more gracious to me. My own Papaw was taken from us very suddenly in March, and that wound is still very very raw, so this is a tough, tough blow. 2016 has been a pretty bad year so far.
