Obviously, I have never been around major college football. How much pressure, or maybe how much of an obligation, do coaching staffs feel toward upperclassmen players when it comes to those guys battling for their job? So long as a player is a quality guy and works hard, is the depth chart all about performance or is preference given to older guys and returning starters?
Just to use an example and not saying that this is the case, but if Coleman Thomas went out this spring and played better at center than Mack Crowder, would the staff be hesitant to replace a senior like Crowder due to other factors other than performance, such as how other members of the team would react?
Again, all just hypothetical here, but take a guy like Kerbyson. If Blair and Kendrick showed tons of improvement and performed better than KK, would the staff be willing to replace him even if it meant KK going to the bench if he couldn't beat our Jackson or Robertson at guard?
