Butch doesn't need to be fired.
Maybe it's Hart not spending money on extra coaching support staff, or whatever reason it is the support staff isn't there?
No strength coach/nutritionist= Injuries.
This is huge. Like Bigly Huge. Believe me this is the hugest.
No QB coach (does DeBord really count?)= passing game inconsistency
(Side rant: For those of you who say Dobbs sucks is an idiot. He is a large part of the success we have had and is one of the best ever UT QB's statistically and is an SEC great statistically)
I think Butch is a CEO game day coach. He motivates the players but doesn't micromanage his employees. He just lets them do their thing with him obviously having the final say-so.
(And no, I highly doubt the Butch Jones the media gets to experience isn't the Butch Jones the players, coaches, or recruits experience. No recruit would ever go for the same 3 phrases over and over and over.)
DeBord, although not a fan favorite, has honestly kind of carried us with our half-hospitalized defense. We put up a bunch of points on a solid Vandy D and won games when we had record breaking worse defensive performances.
My only complaint with him is that with basically 2 O-Line coaches, you would expect great O-Line player development. They kind of seemed to regress from last year. However, I also don't think the O-Line has played healthy all year, so who knows? (*cough* strength coach *cough*)
I still think Shoop was a great hire, but hell, we have what? 5 starters playing at any given time on defense? Less than half! Math!!
(Again, strength coach and injuries)
Yes, this season has been very disappointing, but with the state of the program I don't think a coaching transition would be a step in the right direction. Saban sucked his first 4 years at a major D1 school before he took off. Not saying Butch is the next Saban, BUT the gold standard has done worse. I want to see Butch with a complete support staff AND the talent he has been able to get here.
We really shouldn't take Butch's recruiting prowess for granted.
Thus, in conclusion, therefore, and to state clearly without redundancy, hire a freaking S&C coach. No one needs to be fired. Hart just needs to GIT.
