Recruiting
  • Official start of the 2020 -2021 Recruiting Class.

Junior Days
  • January is a huge month for recruiting high school juniors.
  • Dead period has ended and will be open until the end of January.
  • Tennessee had their first Junior Day this weekend.
  • Early singing day mandates that you start holding official visits right after the dead period in January.
  • National Signing Day - February 5th
  • 3 recruiting day coaching meetings 2/5-2/6 - Pruitt, Ansley , and Chaney will speak with fans.

19-20 Signing Class
  • 21 early signees - all will be freshman.
  • Have added 2 transfers. - puts us at 23 signees/scholarships.
  • You will take a great player at any position.

Where are the needs?

Clearly 3 areas of need that we want to fill.
  1. Cornerback
  2. Defensive Linemen - our depth is made up of upperclassmen.
  3. Tight End - we need a playmaking tight end.
Depth Chart
  • Offensively, where are the holes?
  • We potentially have 7 senior starters returning on offense.
  • We have 5 seniors returning on defense.
  • We have 18 seniors returning, who will see significant playing time.
  • Good depth at most positions. Not sure who the back up center is.
  • Lots of depth of defense - not sure about depth in secondary and inside linebacker positions.

Spring Additions
  • Lost 4-5 quality players from this last team.
  • Gooden is back
  • Gibbs will be eligible
  • Velus Jones
  • Jerermy Banks? He is in school - Can he earn his way back?
  • Early enrollees - Harrison Bailey, Dominic Bailey, and Jimmy Holiday and Cooper Mays joining the team.
  • Doug is intrigued by what we will see from the offense this spring.

Coaching Staff
  • Doug is curious to see the offense this spring.
  • Whats going to happen offensively. Anticipates that we will see some changes to the coaching staff on the offensive side.
  • We had 6 offensive staff members and 4 defensive staff members. Pruitt is a defensive coach, so that evens up the staff.
  • As Pruitt weans himself off of position coach, Pruitt could make the next coaching hire on the defensive side of the ball.
  • Doug said that Pruitt could change roles on the offensive coaching side.
  • Chaney could stop being a walking coach and move to being QB coach/OC. Chaney has the reputation of being a top developer of QBs. Would not happen unless another coach left.
One area that has really improved with the program, is the competition of positional groups. Not all have improved equally. A few have improved more than others.
