Anyway, Packers kick returner Ty Montgomery was set to receive a kickoff yesterday. He was standing in the end zone waiting on the ball to down it. But the kick bounced back toward the field of play and very close to the sideline. Instead of trying to field it and get what he could, he stepped out of bounds and , keeping his feet out of bounds, reached in bounds and grabbed the ball. By rule, when a live ball touches a player that is out of bounds, the ball is considered to be out of bounds. Since a kickoff that goes out of bounds is a penalty, the Packers got the ball on the 40 yard line. I guess it makes sense by the letter of the law, but I would never have considered that as an option. Really a heads up play.
