I was at my 15 year college reunion this past weekend and ran into an old friend of mine who was a GA at Auburn when Petrino was OC there. My friend later went on to be a head coach of a DIII school at age 25 or 26.
He's an Auburn fan but said Butch is a really impressive guy. Remembers going to a coaching clinic circa 2003 when Butch was WR coach at WVU under Rich Rod. Butch did some seminar/training in front of a bunch of other coaches and said even until this day he's never seen a more prepared and organized coach. His immediate thought was that he would be a big time coach someday.
I questioned if he seemed like a good X's and O's guy and he said there was no question. Said he was a wiz.
