Is K Calbert all of a sudden the most important project/player on offense going into spring?

Continuing your comments (and my question) from the chat last night.

The kid is far and away the best athlete on the OL. NFL measurables all day long.... But Friend couldn't get him on the field last year while other guys were getting blown up week after week... yay

Is getting him in a starting role for 2019 not the single biggest thing the offense could do at this point to improve itself for next year? (other than the transition from Helton to CJC and the anticipated improvement of JG)

IF Calbert were to lock down a guard spot and play to his athletic potential, that leaves what I assume are going to be new and improved Ryan Johnson, R Locklear, Carvin and Kennedy to fight over the other two interior jobs. At least three of those guys should play at 315/320 in 2019 and finally have enough S/C time under their belts to start to win some battles. And we have depth. Does WM get in the mix, or a CA?

But what Calbert's starting really does in allow Jamir Johnson (well on his way to the 315 lb range) to get out there and play tackle all spring with his length and agility.

Let N Neihaus and Tatum battle for the other spot/first OT on bench, at least at first. DW and Morris can have a little more time in fall camp to focus on technique and then gradually start to do whatever it is they can in 2019. First 3 games are not hard.

Anyway, I don't see another lever to pull in the spring with more potential payoff (than Calbert). JG is for sure getting better.

If I am CJP (and he is for sure waiting on my ideas). I throw KC in the starting mix this spring from Day 1 and say we are either going to get this figured out or come really close to killing you while trying... our program has precious few athletes like KC on the roster to begin with. Having him (or a Banks) on the bench is simply not an option. The coaches must get these guys producing on the field.

Calbert finally puts our best athlete on the OL on the field AND allows an opportunity to solve one of the OT issues with a kid who could really develop into a star in his own right out there. Two for One. What if by some miracle that somehow all worked out AND Emerson's explosiveness is back on the DL (with Solomon)? Starting to develop a team...
