Had a chance to see Jordan Murphy on Friday night in Mississippi. It was my first time seeing him in person. He was mostly impressive,

Murphy got off to a rough start. The first time he was targeted the ball slipped through his hands and bounced off his helmet. From there, though, everything clicked. It was the only bad play (save for two false starts) he made all bight. The next drive featured one of the most acrobatic sideline catches I’ve seen all year.

He followed that up with the touchdown catch below. His real highlight was a 99-yard score that came after his team was pinned inside it’s own one-yard line. Murphy caught a 15-yard slant , caught a block and went the distance.

Murphy isn’t the tallest receiver there is. He is probably 6-foot or 6-foot-1, but he has long arms for his size. I came away extremely impressed by his explosiveness too. The kid has to add significant weight, but there’s time for that.

He was the most impressive prospect on the field, as his teammate, four-star RB Fabian Franklin (2018), couldn’t get anything going at all. The kid looks like a million bucks in pads, though.

I think he’s likely to stick with the Vols unless things get really bad for the program this season.
