Just been thinking on this since the Alabama game & figured I would jump in on some of the conversation.
Here are my two issues/concerns with Pruitt in year 3 to this point.
1) The regression of the defense. This was suppose to be the area of strength on this team, specifically at DB/DL. This is the area of expertise for Pruitt (especially DB). We look lost & our DB's have regressed since last year.
Now I thought through the first 2 games of the year we looked really good, we played with an aggression/passion. We were making plays all over the field. Even in the first half of the UGA game I thought the D did a very good job of limiting the damage & keeping us in that game. Maybe the defense looks out there at this point & see's #2 taking snaps & they already know they're defeated so the effort/passion is gone?
2) The inability of Pruitt/Helton/Chaney/Weinke to find/recruit/develop a QB better than JG. It baffles me. You look around at other programs across the country & they have this unique ability to find & develop a QB. Maybe Bailey is that guy? I may be naive here but I completely buy into him not being ready at this point. He had no spring practice, virtually no summer workouts, & he missed time in fall camp due to COVID.
I'm not saying Pruitt isn't the guy, I'm not saying he needs to be fired. What I am saying is that to me these are some worrisome signs. Dooley had them, Butch had them early on. Hopefully we can get back to some normalcy soon so that this team/staff can have a full spring, summer, fall practice in 2021. Next season's schedule looks manageable, this team will have some talent/depth & whether it is Bailey/Salter it will have a new QB. 2021 is my judgement year for Pruitt.
I also want to add. I don't think Chaney forgot how to manage or call an offense. I do believe he is extremely limited in what he can do because of #2. Look at how great Fromm looked under Chaney's tutelage & then compare that to what Fromm looked like just last season, he regressed. Give Chaney a QB & I think we would be more dynamic on offense. JMO.
