I've gone over the last 3 seasons total offense and total defense to spot strengths/weakness and trends. These are "lagging" stats, meaning they tell you what happened and validate what you saw with your eyes. I'm going to try to make them "leading" indicators and predict what it's going take to win 10, 11 and 12+ wins. I had to trim the list to 10 and 11+ because there wasn't enough of a sample size (3) for 11 so I lumped them in with the 12's. I also Isolated the playoff teams (in green), the playoff teams are also included in the 12+ category.
(total off/total def) (remember the lower the better)
Tennessee 52/36 (last year)
What you need to win:
10 wins (2015)
58.67/51.58
11+ wins (2015)
34.44/34.44 (not a typo)
Playoffs (2015)
34.00/19.5
So according this UT's Def. is good enough to win 11 games, what I do is combine the 2 together and divide by 2. UT's total score of 88 should have been good enough for 10 wins not good enough for 11 wins or playoffs. For 11+ we need to pick it up a little.
Where do special teams come in you ask? I just keep those in my pockets like a bunch of nickels . Sand bag a little bit. I'll show you during my single game analysis.
I put 2015 numbers, I'll add 2013 and 2014 and average that should smooth it out and make it more accurate.
BTW, these are stats for power 5 schools only + ND and BYU.
Enjoy!
