What a classy man! He spoke at a church tonight and did amazing!
However, since I know the pastor and is a friend of mine hosting this event, I was able to talk with him a little about football!
Seeing him light up about talking about the battles against Miami, Florida, Nebraska, & a few others was priceless!
He said tonight that he was actually offered the opportunity to coach at Auburn, and Alabama! But, he told them why would I want to coach someone I can beat? Lol! He said this during his speaking engagement! The just went nuts lol...
I asked him personally what was the hardest hitting game that he can remember and said Mickey said it was Tennessee in 98? He said it was hard to argue that, Tennessee Hut us hard!
I asked him about the game in 98 in the Fiesta Bowl and he said who did we play? I noticed he’s starting to get forgetful tonight while speaking...But I say Coach that was Tennessee! He said well we didn’t have our qb and they ran back that dadgum ball all the way! He also said we had the best WR in history and couldn’t get him the ball, the defense was just swarming!
He said you know growing up I went and watch every other year Tennessee & Alabama. And you k ow it was always those two schools going for it! They were so good (Tennessee). He said there’s zero reason why they shouldn’t be great still. He said they started going down a few years ago but why? I said Kiffin, Dooley, & Butch! He said yep there’s your problem!
He then said well that young man up there now in Coach Pruitt will get it done! He can coach and he has the right ones with him to help.
While signing my son (Peyton) & I footballs, he said son how you spell your name? Peyton said P E Y T O N. He looked up smiled, & said that’s not because one of the GOAT is it? Peyton said Go Vols!
Folks, he’s just a total class act and was so personable to my son and I. Nothing earth shattering but he was very positive about the Vols, even in the face of talking defeat from 98!
