“His ability to run is a major difference in what they are doing. They run him close to 15 to 20 times a game. Some are scrambles but some are quarterback designed runs and they are very good at it. If they are struggling with their backs, they just let him run it. They have two great running backs (SO, Jalen Hurd and SO, Alvin Kamara) and he is a third one, and they know how to utilize him as a runner. They are very difficult to defend. They give you a lot of different looks and it is a very well conceived scheme.”
“He is a guy that changed a lot of their offense once he became a part of it. Once he became the guy it was amazing to me how quickly they tailored their offense to his skill set. They did that so quickly and even last year they did a great job adapting to his skill set running the ball. That is where it starts, as they run the ball off the quarterback. That is a whole another set of challenges for our defense.”
“Hurd is a big, physical guy and Kamara is not quite as big, but he is elusive, too. They are both quality running backs! They both present some challenges because they are strong, elusive and they have speed to take it the distance. They are both good backs and maybe Kamara gives them a little more pop, but Hurd gives them strength and is a good runner between the tackles. With the quarterback they are both a three-headed monster that all get touches. They will all probably carry the ball 15 times, and that’s how it balances out for them. The quarterback run game will be a big part of it on Saturday before it is all said and done.”
Said cornerback Zack Sanchez: “Yeah, I mean, just kind of the modern day quarterback. He can run and he can throw it, you know, got a real strong arm. You know, he’s looking to take your head off on a deep route so we’ve just got to be on our P’s and Q’s on the back end and we’ll be all right.”
Said defensive end Matt Dimon: “He can run. He can run and pass. You know, he’s a good quarterback. He’s a lot different than the one we saw last year. But, like I said, we’re just going to prepare the same regardless of who it is, and hopefully we just go out there and play the game that we need to.”
