I'm definitely more of a lurker than a poster, but some of you might remember me posting about a year and a half ago saying that I was considering going out for the Rangers. I was really looking for something to push me both physically and mentally while I was still young, and some of you mentioned that I should look into the SEALs/Green Berets/PJs, etc., while I was at it.
I graduated in December 2014 from TTU with a pre-med degree and almost immediately started thinking military. For a year and a half, I tried every way I could think of to talk myself out of joining, but the idea had been planted and I just couldn’t shake it.
So I finally went to the recruiting office today, told them I was ready to sign with the 18x Green Beret contract, and set up next Wednesday to go to Nashville and enlist. I went to MEPS in April and did well on my ASVAB, DLAB, all that, so the only major things I’ve got left to do is take my airborne physical and sign.
Timing worked out well, I’ll ship August 8th, finish basic and Airborne at Fort Benning in December, be home for Christmas, and then ship to Fort Bragg for SFAS right at the beginning of the year (although I imagine SFAS, followed by Q Course, in the cold will be brutal).
Go Vols, and hopefully I’ll be starting a new thread here in another year and half or so saying I made it and I’m a medic in the newest Green Beret graduating class.
