I arrived in Knoxville today from Florida to meet with my 88 year old father tomorrow morning, to (as gently as possible) tell him that he is no longer capable of living on his own.
I know many of you have been forced to face this very same circumstance. As in fact, almost every person with whom I have discussed this burden, has had to shoulder it to some degree in their own family.
When I got in town today, I drove by all of the fields and gyms where I played sports year round, always with my father cheering me on. I actually walked onto the Little League baseball diamond where I last played more than 50 years ago.
My father no longer can remember any of those games. But I will never forget him being there.
