By no means is this a bash Butch thread. Just more of a discussion about things going forward. I was reading on Twitter yesterday that Alvin Kamara has now moved himself into the Fournette/Dalvin Cook territory of the draft. That's scary high for a RB. I'm super happy for Alvin, bc that guy deserves it. Plus I think his skill set warrants being selected that high.

But my question is this.... how in the 2 years Alvin was here he played behind Jalen Hurd every game Hurd was healthy? It's not like Hurd was gashing through defenses to a tune of 8 or 9 YPC or anything. I'll even go as far as to say at times our offense looked stagnant when Hurd was running the ball. Constantly getting ourselves in 3rd and longs with him in the game. It's almost blindingly obvious how much of a better fit Alvin was for our offense, but yet we kept catering to Hurd and giving him the rock for 3 yards a carry. Even when he wasn't a good teammate or easily coached. Just doesn't make sense to me. Maybe if we had someone who was just average or something, but it looks like NFL Scouts believe we had a mid first round RB behind Hurd. Kamara averaged less than 11 touches a game in 2 years at Tennessee as a RB, and he's going to go mid first round. Meanwhile Jalen Hurd is touring campuses, and trying to swap positions. Hopefully this isn't a sign of Butch's ability to evaluate, but it does make you wonder.

So let's fast forward to this season coming up. I think all us GQ scouts can look and tell how much of a playmaker Tyler Byrd is. Is Butch going to keep him as our 3rd WR behind Josh Smith getting 3-4 passes a game thrown his way? I'd think so. And that is mind numbing to me. We need to get our best players on the field as much as they can handle, and I don't think Butch does a great job of doing that. At all
