This fahr him act gets old. Who's going to come here as a replacement knowing their leash is that short and delusional expectations. If a coach is making strides, you have to give him plenty of time to tweak this and that. Top coaches want that security and won't go to a school if they don't have it. If Butch had done no better than 5-7 every year he has been here, I could see firing him. This year has been a disappointment but so has our rash of injuries. We might have Cam Sutton back, but can you honestly say he looks like he's 100% healthy? Butch came very close to guiding us to an undefeated season in 2015 with a team that seemed a lot more physical than this year's team. He lost to our old nemesis Florida but got us over the hump for the first time in over a decade against them this year.
Bret Bielema was thought of as one of the best coaches in the Big 10 before he took the Arkansas job. This year has been an even bigger disappointment for him and the Hogs and they haven't had the terrible luck we've had with injuries. Look at Hugh Freeze who beat Alabama in 2013 and 2014. Brian Kelly had great seasons with Cincinnati and Notre Dame but has had a very disappointing season this year. The same can be said of the great Mark Dantonio at Michigan State. It happens.
Don't write off Butch just yet. Give the man a chance to make changes to our strength and conditioning program, coordinators, and with position coaches. In my opinion, the biggest problem we're having right now besides being without three of our best DT's due to injuries and a dismissal is the season ending injury to JRM. Cam Sutton is playing like he's about 60% back from his injury. The man plays with heart and deserves praise for trying to make a difference for us. Butch needs bring back the strength and conditioning program we had in 2015. We seemed a lot stronger at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. We also need position coaches particularly at linebacker and in the secondary that are better at teaching schemes and tackling techniques.
It's clear that changes are going to have to happen. Butch has shown he isn't too loyal to his assistants to make changes. Give him time to make the necessary changes and see what happens down the road.
