as opposed to late 60's/70's is, I'm guessing 50+ lbs per man? I know when I went to school, Chip Kell was looked at as a huge guy. I think he played at 260 lbs or there about. It would be interesting to know statistics on average size of people as a whole over the last 50 years. Average height of a man when I was growing up was around 5'8" or so. Now it seems kids are much bigger. I was talking to a guy I went to High School with about this the other day. When we played sports, he was considered a good size offensive tackle at 190 lbs. I was a receiver/flanker back and played at 155 lbs. I doubt we could even get on the field today.
