National director of basketball recruiting. I know Evan a little....big fan of Lanier.
‘In terms of Simons as a player, I think he's a very good guard prospect. He's grown to a legitimate 6-foot-4, and although that's just a tad undersized for position by NBA standards (6-5), I like his long term upside because of his scoring ability and athleticism.
At this stage, Simons is a scoring guard, but I do think in time he's going to develop nicely into a combination guard, as he has a solid handle and is crafty with the ball in his hands. He's a very good long-range shooter that shot it better than 42-percent from three in the UnderArmour Association last season. He does a good job of creating space and is a more than capable shooter from mid-range.
What's holding Simons back right now is a lack of strength, and physically I don't think he's ready for the rigors of NBA. That said, if a NBA team is willing to take him in the first round and promised him, then it would make sense to take them up on that offer. Personally, I think at least a year of college would be good for his long term development. That would allow him to work on his body and fine tune his skills.’
Our hope is that we can sell him on that last paragraph and get a big insurance policy together.
FWIW, it’s Simons or grad transfer imo
