The Vols had a spirited, non-contact session today on Haslam Field in advance of Saturday's grand spring finale, the Orange & White Game that kicks at 2 inside Neyland Stadium.

Tennessee was nearly a full team in its shorts and jerseys today, with key appearances dominating our staff observations below:

John's Takes:

Obviously, it was significant to see the Vols welcome back several injured teammates onto the practice field, highlighted by but not limited to Derek Barnett, Kyle Phillips, Kendal Vickers, Josh Malone and Evan Berry, among others.

Also worth noting: Jashon Robertson and Chance Hall continue to progress well, doing individual work on hand-drills and pass-sets as they both return from shoulder procedures.

Bob Shoop continued to work the safeties very hard, as he has all spring, and likewise Willie Martinez worked with Shoop in some
secondary drills.

Don Mahoney and Mike DeBord challenged the offensive linemen a great deal, despite the lack of pads, in both hand-violence and sets, as well as leverage. Jack Jones didn't appear 100-percent, but Jones was going through the drills & competing.

Paul's Takes:

It was the final day of spring practice before Saturday's Orange & White Game and the most pleasant of surprises on the day was several of Tennessee's injured players participated in practice.

Derek Barnett, Evan Berry, Josh Malone, Kyle Phillips and Kendal Vickers were all dressed and went through drills with their team.

All looked to be moving well and you could tell they had been working on strength and conditioning training. Phillips in particular caught my eye with the way he glided around the field in several drills. He just seemed to move effortlessly.

There wasn't much else to see besides that in the few viewing periods we had and there wasn't really any hitting as they were in shorts and helmets, but you could tell the presence of the injured players on the field had the coaches excited.

Brent's Takes:

Tennessee went through their final paces of spring practice before Saturday's Orange and White game. Tennessee was not in pads and that meant we got to see injured players running around. Players like Josh Malone, Kyle Phillips, Derek Barnett and others who are well along in their rehab were on the field today running through drills.

Today's short workout was devoted to kind of a wrap up of spring schematically as well as some final fundamental work. It also includes a run through of Saturday's work which will include the quarterback challenge, punter competition as well as 1 on 1's.

Jones and his staff were preaching and pushing for energy as the theme was finish.

Overall, it was a short day on the practice field that also featured a couple of guest including some pilots who are in town for this weekend's air show.
