What is the deal with Cortez Mcdowell

I saw him get in on a couple plays on special teams. What has happened with him? He shot up like 30lbs, didn't do anything in camp but looked like the next JRM at times last year on kick coverage. Before the game I heard he was ruled out indefinitely.
