Dooley left an NFL oline, granted not a lot of depth. Stone,Tiny,Jujuan James,Zac Fulton were all good players. He also left Rajon Neal at TB who played in the league. He also left Pig Howard who was a good play maker and Jason Croom who made an NFL roster. He also left Nate Peterman who might of developed under Chaney. Peterman has started in the NFL.
Most interesting is the talent that was left on defense. On the d-line there was Dan McCullers and Jordan Williams who both play(ed) in the NFL. Marlon Walls was a good player. He left the best linebacker we've had since Jarod Mayo in AJ Johnson. He left Curt Madgitt who had a monster junior year and played briefly in the NFL. In the secondary, Justin Coleman was Butch's first nickel back and he continues to play in the league. Brian Randolph suffered a knee injury or would have played in the league.
He also left Palardy and Darr as specialists. When you throw in Dobbs,Sutton, and a few more, it's easy to see that Butch was a horrible coach. He should have won at least 8 games in year one. Totally blowing both the UGA and Vandy games.
If you look at the roster CJP inherited, the qb situation is about the same, the rb situation slightly better, the wr position better, but the oline is far,far worse. The d line is about the same, the linebacker situation worse, and the inherited secondary worse. I do think Darrel Taylor has a chance to be a very very good player. Bituli has flashed, Warrior has flashed, Phillips and his cohorts on the dline will all get a tryout in the league. The jury is not in but Dooley is the clubhouse leader.
