Tennessee is solidly into game prep now and you can kind of feel the gears shifting.

Butch started the day with a little circle of life action to get the juices flowing. As usual, it was hard to see much behind the scrum of bodies. The head coach called Alexis Johnson out for two consecutive match-ups to start things off, pairing him with Ryan Johnson and then Nathan Niehaus. Johnson appeared to more than hold his own in both match-ups but there wasn’t a definitive winner as we sometimes see.

Other match-ups Jones called for were Justin Martin and Marquez Callaway, which Callaway appeared to win decisively, Elliot Berry and Quarte Sapp, Jeff George and Nigel Warrior and Jarrett Guarantano against Zac Jancek with Guarantano shoving Jancek around pretty good to the delight of his teammates.

Back to Alexis Johnson, he obviously is going to have to catch-up on his conditioning but it sure looks like the staff plans on him playing. Quay Picou started game week on the scout team while Johnson is on active duty, which seems to hint that Johnson will be in the rotation soon if he isn’t already.

Shy Tuttle continues to look better and better and if he’s not 100% he looks close. Same for Kyle Phillips who has missed a little time, he looks quick and explosive.

Also it looked like D.J. Henderson is starting off on the scout team, a bit of a surprise as it appears the junior college transfer has been passed by several younger teammates.
