I always thought it was strange cross training brand new linemen. I can see the merits of having older veteran players who know their position backwards and forwards train on other spots for depth reasons.

but taking players who are trying to learn one spot and keep shuffling them around without giving them a chance to get settled always seemed odd.

now this article seems to suggest the players feel similarly..

"But, after a conversation before spring practice with Don Mahoney changed Kerbyson's course for his senior season. The shuffling wasn't helping him grow. "

""It's been huge," Kerbyson said. "Every rep that I can get at one spot is going to make me better. Being able to stay at tackle, especially going against Curt (Maggitt) and (Derek) Barnett, has made me a better player, too."

""When new guys have to step in, I have to make them feel confident," Kerbyson explained. "If they don't feel confident they don't feel like they can make the right blocks then they're not going to do it. You've got to envision yourself doing it before you actually go out there"

anyone who has actually coached or played football (i never did) think this is weird to do this with young guys or is it normal?
