Yep, that's all I need to say for everyone to know today's recommendation. A freaking classic, featuring dramatic actor turned comedic wunderkind Leslie Nielsen. The flick, of course, is:
THE NAKED GUN: FROM THE FILES OF POLICE SQUAD!
What's with a lot of these awesome comedies having exclamation marks in their titles? Anyway, from IMDb, the plot is about how "Incompetent police Detective Frank Drebin must foil an attempt to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II."
Amazing how the Queen Mother is still with us, really. Almost as amazing as her first pitch.
So, this big screen version of the "Police Squad!" series is maybe infamous now thanks to its having ol' OJ in the cast, but so be it; it's still a veritable "laff riot" in my humble opinion. While many scenes fit into the "so dumb, it's funny" category, it really is in the vein of AIRPLANE! and therefore quite a clever flick. I've embedded the trailer below, just in case you just stepped into this reality from elsewhere in the multiverse:
There really isn't a lot I can say about the film that you're not aware of... so, I won't. It's freaking hilarious, and, with a nod to Ricardo Montalban, definitely the winner of the '72 Cordoba.
So, if you can, sit back in whatever rich Corinthian leather you have and treat yourself to a sidesplitting slapstick romp.
Oh, and for those of you who were pushing for MAJOR LEAGUE to make the list, here's hoping this clip from today's pick will suffice:
That last bit with Mel Allen takes me back to watching "This Week In Baseball" back when I was playing. Oh, nostalgia.
