Hello, all.
Yeah, you're probably thinking that today would have been a more opportune time to have recommended a Cheech and Chong flick... but, well, the whole month of April is technically 4/20 since it's 2020, so hopefully you'll give me a pass on that one.
But not on today's flick. Ooh, you've just got to love those super subtle segues.
There have been some pretty good mockumentaries, from WAITING FOR GUFFMAN to DROP DEAD GORGEOUS, but this one is probably "the grandaddy of them all."
THIS IS SPINAL TAP
From IMDb, the plot is about how "Spinal Tap, one of England's loudest bands, is chronicled by film director Marty DiBergi on what proves to be a fateful tour."
I love how the tired bromide that "truth is stranger than fiction" is on full display here, with a myriad of real-world experiences being woven into this flick. Of course, being a drummer [and avowed Neil Peart disciple], the shtick with the drummer at the end is a little personal... but it's still freaking funny. If you're wondering just how much, then please do check out the trailer embedded below:
Oh, it makes me so happy that the Stonehenge thing made it into that trailer. But how could it not, right? The same [thankfully] goes for the infamous "These go to eleven" line... which, incidentally, was used in one of the in-game videos on ye ol' JumboTron last season.
There's a reason why this one is a cult phenomenon. Meathead nailed it with this one.
And if you don't want to discuss the flick, then I suppose you could observe just how clever it was to recommend A FISH CALLED WANDA yesterday and feature a flick starring her hubs [released in the same year they got married, incidentally - 1984, a great year for movies]. OR, if you're playing 3-D chess, you might observe how Michael McKean was in this one and also featured for many seasons on Better Call Saul, which just so happens to be wrapping up its fifth season tonight.
This movie is more clever than all that. Please, if you haven't watched it yet, rent or stream it.
And don't forget to turn up your home theater system to eleven.
Enjoy!
