Hello, all.

Before I get into the nitty gritty about today's recommendation, I've got to correct an oversight from yesterday's entry in this quasi "series," and that's to mention another film that dealt authentically with the sort of internal mental/emotional conflict one experiences in the world of relationships. The movie that would've made the list but for I LOVE YOU, MAN was HIGH FIDELITY. A very solid flick that, like a few other adaptations of Nick Hornby's writings, manages to be both real and really funny.

Now that that's out of the way, it's on to discuss [however briefly] a film that needs little discussion, particularly in the wake of the loss of Brian Dennehy... maybe his recent passing even had some of you revisiting today's film.

TOMMY BOY

From IMDb, the plot is as follows - "After his auto-parts tycoon father dies, the overweight, underachieving son teams up with a snide accountant to try and save the family business."

Chris Farley and David Spade really had a good on-screen chemistry. But for the former's unexpectedly early death, they may have been up there with Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, and other comedic pairings... and, when all is said and done, they still may well be.

Just sitting here composing this brief write-up, a slew of scenes from this one are bouncing around in my head, each one giving at least a laugh... which have to be tamped down thanks to a [finally] sleeping bambino, alas. You've doubtless got them going through your head, too... just a one-word prompt will do, which shows how great and enduring a comedy this one is. For example, "Housekeeping." You're welcome. Oh, another? How about "BEES!" You're welcome again. I'll include my favorite in a bit, but first, the trailer...

Like you needed to see it, right?

It's actually a very solid flick, and the on-screen chemistry between Farley and Spade puts it over the top... that chemistry only barely managed to salvage BLACK SHEEP, but hey, it's hard to catch lightning in a bottle. Nevertheless, you can tell the two SNL alums enjoyed chewing the screen together, and I have to guess that it took several takes for everyone on set not to be micturating themselves with laughter during this scene... which happens to be my personal favorite:

There's a good chance that you were mouthing the lines along with ol' Tommy Boy. And if not, then it just means you haven't watched this one enough... or at all. In that case, go watch it!

Enjoy!
