Hello, all.
Man, I miss going to the movies. It's kind of selfish, I suppose, but it's true... and it's also true that I miss laughing out loud at a movie whilst happily shoveling popcorn down my gullet at the local movie theater. The last movie that really made me abandon any sense of self-awareness and just laugh out loud - a lot - just so happens to be today's movie recommendation.
LIAR LIAR
From the IMDb, the plot is about "A fast-track lawyer [who] can't lie for 24 hours due to his son's birthday wish after he disappoints his son for the last time."
While Jim Carrey has kinda been wayward in his cinematic pursuits lately, I've been fond of him since the days when he acted like Wile E. Coyote on Johnny Carson's show, and particularly his portrayal of Fire Marshal Bill on "In Living Color." His crowning cinematic achievement may well have been his breakthrough role as ACE VENTURA: PET DETECTIVE, but I'd say it was as the strung out Johnny Squares in THE DEAD POOL.
Just kidding. It's his portrayal of ace liar/lawyer Fletcher Reede in today's recommended flick. To get an idea of just how his trademark manic energy plays out on-screen, I've embedded a trailer for the flick below:
Happily, the trailer only gives a taste of it, not spoiling the bathroom scene, among others, all of which had me [and everyone else in the theater] laughing so hard that I'm pretty sure I could consider it an ab workout.
Exhibit A: This scene, even tho' I've seen it about a hundred times, somehow defies the laws of diminishing returns... especially the bit around the 1:08 mark.
Obviously, a little bit of cinematic context would probably help you to enjoy that sample a bit more, but it's about as representative a clip of the whole film as there is... so, if it didn't even make you chuckle, I'd say skip it and stick to... well, whatever works. Reruns of I Love Lucy, perhaps.
Or, if that's just not your brand of manic energy comedy, then you could always opt for something starring Robin Williams. Hard not to go wrong there, either, honestly... and I'd have found a spot for his GOOD MORNING, VIETNAM had I not already written about it in the war films "series" I churned out a few months ago. But, if you're a fan of that kind of comedy and haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and check out this flick!
Enjoy!
