Hello, all.

Today's comedy flick recommendation really needs no introduction... but, as the iGenners [not to be confused with the Bruce Jenners (*cue monkey rim shot *.gif!*)] are wont to say, "I'ma" do it anyway.

Like I've already mentioned, I'm kinda "playing the hits" with this quasi "series" of mine, so I'm not going to cover any new ground today... but, man, what great ground to cover, no matter how familiar. Mel Brooks made a name for himself with the spoofs [and, really, with "Your Show of Shows"], but today's pick isn't BLAZING SADDLES... it is, instead, THE spoof film, par excellence.

AIRPLANE!

From IMDb, the plot is "A man afraid to fly must ensure that a plane lands safely after the pilots become sick."

What a dry synopsis for such a classic freaking send-up of other films and pop culture mores...

The problem with spoof films is that they often rely on the viewer being familiar with the material being spoofed. There's some of that in AIRPLANE! [i.e. that "never has a second cup of coffee" thing] but it really functions exceptionally well all on its own. I don't know what moment in the film popped into your head when you read "AIRPLANE!," but I can almost guarantee you at least giggled a bit when you remembered it. For whatever reason, it was the girl's face [the one who needed the transplant] after the IV got popped out by the crooning stewardess. Maybe it's all this medical stuff bouncing between synapses.

Regardless, if you haven't seen the flick, you're probably the least likely person on the planet to get Covid-19, because the rock you're living under is enormously huge. Still, if you crawled out from under it long enough to read this post, stay out long enough to check out the trailer embedded below:

But, surely you can't be serious about not seeing this film already.

Enjoy! [And be prepared to find yet another new thing in the film that you hadn't laughed at the other fifty times you've seen it.]
