It's unusual for me to post just to complain,but my pet peeve is getting to be sports bars where nobody knows how to turn the #@&in tv channel. Went to BWWs in J.C. the other night to play trivia .The only reason I'd even darken the door of that rathole in the first place is because I spent most of the 90s and 2000s playing bar trivia ,and when my old trivia partners and I want to go play for old times sake ,BWWs is the only place in the TRI that still has the Buzztime/ NTN network.
Anyway,when I got there they had three trivia boxes out of about 9 working , and they were all 3 covered in wing sauce because they didn't appear to have been cleaned since the Dooley era.
They also had the same hockey game on all but 2 of the advertised 60 tvs .I asked the barmaid,who to my middle-aged eyes appeared to be about 14,if we could put a small tv on the Braves Astros game.She immediately put it on MLB network .When I told her that it was on FOX SE ,She said "we don't have that" but offered to go and look for it .When I asked her to look for MLB Extra Innings ,her eyes rolled so hard I thought they would glaze over,and then she took the remote and proceeded to run right by the game on the Guide Channel twice.When I pointed that out and asked if she could just hand me the remote and let me show her ,she said customers weren't allowed to use the remote .I gave up because it was the third time I have been in that location lately where this type of thing happened and the previous time ,when I asked for the Vols baseball game on SEC Network,I was told that the manager was out for that night and no one else could get it on the tv.
I guess I've missed something .I didn't realize that bad food ,overpriced booze, poorly trained employees and a filthy dining room was a formula for success.If any of you high end guys would consider coming to the Tri Cities and opening a sports bar,Ill give you plenty of business. I miss the Apex and 112 when readmorevols worked there.
