A couple of years ago I started a thread on VolChat in regard to how poorly the UT press conferences are run. In particular, the poor sound from the guys asking the questions. Some time after that someone gave microphones to the press as they asked their questions. I don't know if that has fallen by the wayside or if the guy responsible for that got ran out of town, but the quality has gone to crap again. You can bearly hear the questions.
It is just downright embarrassing with the media department we have at the university that no one has enough sense to realize how slipshod and 3rd rate it make us look when the coach has a press conference and the people in charge of it either aren't sharp enough, or just too darned lazy to make sure that the sound in the room is top quality. I could go into any room, shoot some white noise, set the equipment and have perfect sound from not only the speaker, but the questioners as well. The science behind this is old and very simple.
Brent, I really hope you or someone who knows who is in charge would forward this to them because once again, we look like an organization who's either too lazy or too ignorant to know how to set up the sound in a room for a press conference.
Tips, have a few microphones in the room for the press to pass around. Instruct the press to wait until they have a microphone before asking their questions. 4 mics in the room would be sufficient. While one guy's asking, pass a mic to the next member of the press. Shoot the room with white noise before each press conference and set the sound system accordingly. Have your balances set before the first person ever enters the room.
Or, you guys on The Hill can just continue to do like you've done other things, oh, like coaching searces .... Stop making us look like we are too backward to pull off something as simple as a darned press conference. Someone has to be in charge of this. Get it right.
